I attended the 5 day course in Japanese using the Silent Way that Chika gave at Actualis Formation in Paris in July 2018. This was my first experience of learning Japanese and of a course using the Silent Way. I speak very little French so that might have been a problem in a traditionally taught language course ... but not in the slightest, given the Silent Way approach.
It was a wonderful experience for me to learn so thoroughly the basis of Japanese; to gain a very tangible sense of ‘the spirit of the language’; to be able through the course to confidently create such a range of true utterances myself; and to own thoroughly the meaning of the other students’ utterances, without recourse to any form of translation. Not only that, I now have the basis of writing hiragana and katakana.
Chika is very skilled at teaching and developing the powers of her students ... and I’m hoping for the chance to take a follow on course in Japanese with her in the future.
